Chris Brooks, Sensei

Chris Brooks began his jiu jitsu training at Trent University in Peterborough in September 1995 under Andy Dobie. In September 1999 he moved to Kingston and established a jiu jitsu club at Queen’s University. Chris has been the instructor of the Queen’s Jiu Jitsu Club ever since. Chris currently holds the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu.

Chris holds current St John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR certificates. He has also completed National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1. In addition to jiu jitsu, Chris has also studied taekwondo, karate, hapkido, judo and Tai Chi Chuan.

 

Stuart Cooke, Sensei

Stuart Cooke began his jiu jitsu career at the Queen’s University Club in Kingston and trained there for several years under Chris Brooks. Upon graduation in 2005, he moved to England and began training under Nigel and Nicola Price at the King’s College Club in London. Stuart returned to Canada in 2006 and resumed training in Kingston.

He taught jiu jitsu at St.Lawrence College from 2008 to 2010 before beginning to teach at the Kingston YMCA Club, where he is the current head instructor. Stuart has also studied Brazilian jiu jitsu (also known as Gracie jiu jitsu), currently edits the Jitsu Canada newsletter and runs Martial-Mind.com. Stuart holds the rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) in Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu.

Michael Troop, Sensei

Michael began his study of Jiu Jitsu under Mark Yourkevich in 2008 at the Kingston YMCA club.  Michael continued to train at the YMCA when Mark passed the club to Stu Cooke in 2009.  Under Stu Cooke, Michael graded to brown belt and was subsequently made the instructor of the YMCA adult club in 2012.
